Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking candidates for the position of Archaeology Field Technician III & IV , which can be based out of our offices in Peterborough, Barrie, or Saint Ste Marie .
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting Stages 2-4 archaeological field work under the guidance of a field supervisor.
Identifying and recovering Indigenous and Euro-Canadian artifacts as instructed by the site supervisor.
Prioritizing Health and Safety protocols and adhering to all AECOM procedures.
Willingness to travel extensively across Ontario for extended periods.
Taking on a junior leadership role during field operations.
Assisting the Field Supervisor with technical aspects of field work.
Contributing to the training of new team members.
Setting an example for teammates and undertaking additional tasks as assigned by field supervisors or management.
Please be advised that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of persons in the above noted position. The parties have entered a collective bargaining agreement & any candidate who is hired into the noted role will be kept informed of any changes to the terms & conditions of their employment because of that process.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
Highschool + 4 years of relevant experience
Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork (lift up to 40lbs and be capable of repetitive movement).
Can communicate information, issues, concerns related to the site work in an effective and professional manner to Field Supervisor.
Will attend work in a timely manner, prepared for all weather conditions and ensuring appropriate weather gear is readily available.
Reliable transportation to and from assigned office or designated project meet spot is essential.
Sensitivity and awareness combined with a respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture and people is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology.
Proven ability to recognize cultural material and collect in a controlled manner.
Proven physical ability and care when conducting excavations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Valid Ontario driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to support Field Supervisor with technical aspects of archaeology & leading the team.
Demonstrated knowledge of MCM Standards & Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
Additional Information
- Under the Collective Agreement between AECOM and LiUNA, the compensation for Archaeology Field Technician III and IV at AECOM for the 2025 field season will be between $27.83/Hr and $29.44/Hr.
