AECOM is seeking an experienced Energy and Carbon Coordinator to join an established Sustainability and Decarbonisation Advisory (SDA) team based in our Basingstoke office, but also part of a wider UK&I sustainability group.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering and coordinating energy, carbon and climate mitigation services for several major public and private sector clients, helping them to meet their Net Zero targets and alignment with the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (NZCBS). Our clients cover a range of sectors, including residential, public, office, industrial, retail and education.

AECOM have a long history of supporting government research, development of national regulations, implementation of local policies and producing industry leading guidance. The successful candidate will have opportunities to influence future standards and regulations.

To be successful in the role you will need to have a good technical understanding of passive design principles, building services, building physics, low and zero carbon energy generation technologies and embodied carbon. Although the role is quite broad, the successful candidate will be given plenty of support and mentoring from technical specialists in the team, where required.

What you’ll do!

  • Delivery of net zero carbon strategies for major public and private sector clients.

  • Working closely with architects, engineers and daylighting / noise/ air quality consultants you will co-ordinate and develop clear energy and overheating strategies for planning submissions across a range of development types.

  • Passive Design Analysis and Low & Zero Carbon studies; applying Passivhaus principles to projects to ensure reduce energy demand in the first instance and supporting building services design colleagues to conduct options analyses and specify energy efficient and low & zero carbon buildings and technologies.

  • Supporting our response to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) for Part L and Part O submissions for buildings which fall within the High-Risk Buildings category.

  • Conducting energy and overheating modelling of a range of different building types to identify energy saving opportunities using tools such as SAP, HEM, IES, TM54 and other AECOM bespoke systems, including detailed energy modelling for the upcoming BREEAM v7.

  • Support the team on producing industry guidance and national regulations and reviewing planning submissions on behalf of local planning authorities.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in energy, architecture, engineering or related discipline (building services and/or energy related qualifications are highly desirable).

  • Professional experience in sustainability and/or energy consulting, management, green building consulting or other related experience in the consulting industry and/or private or public sector.

  • A good knowledge of UK planning system.

  • High level of report writing including energy strategies and overheating reports.

  • Building performance analysis experience and modelling for Part L & O of the Building Regulations and

  • An understanding of Embodied Carbon and the challenges facing our clients regarding the life cycle of buildings.
