Job Description

Working as part of a well-established OLE team, you will be responsible for managing and delivering safe, economical, and quality projects for a variety of clients to meet their objectives and requirements.

The Principal Engineer will be overall in charge for the technical excellence in the design and will lead the Design Engineer/Sr. Engineer and will report to the Team Leader and work together across all disciplines to achieve the best system design approach for each project. This role may include responsibility for leading a team of Engineers and Sr Engineer.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Technical Lead duties for OLE design Schemes.

  • Delivery and management of the production of technical designs for OLE including Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Allocations, Isolation Diagrams updates, bonding designs, and supporting reports and calculations.

  • Ensuring designs are delivered in line with relevant, current design standards, are constructable, and apply Safe by Design principles.

  • Work within financial and programme constraints, monitoring expenditure against the project fee.

  • Communicate effectively with other design/construction disciplines and sub-contractors

  • Respond to design queries during construction phase and attend meetings if required.

  • Prepare all the Project related Progress sheets/MOM/KPIs.

Commercial

  • Maintain cost effective standards for OLE designs

  • Contribute to the development of continuous improvement plans

  • Develop and maintain client relationships as appropriate

  • Prepare the costing and hour required for the tasks.

Managerial

  • Manage time and resources effectively

  • Manage performance and team development

  • Manage the appraisal of staff competency

  • Develop and manage subordinate staff in line with the Unit Business Plan

Professional

  • Ensure a commitment to continuing CPD for self and others

  • Delegate responsibility effectively

  • Display creativity and problem-solving ability in approach to assignments, projects and tasks

  • Show capacity to improve effectiveness.

  • Exercise leadership and interpersonal skills in the management and motivation of others

Qualifications

  • Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent in the relevant field from any global organization (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers, UK)

  • 12+ Years of experience

  • Proven lead designer experience of significant Overhead Line technical design

  • Comprehensive knowledge and Experienced in OLEMI and other OLE ranges i.e. UKMS, Series-1, Series-2, Mk3B, GEFF, Mk1, SICAT, SNCF, UK1 etc.

  • Familiar with Isolation diagrams and their update process.

  • Understanding of Earthing & Bonding required for electrification

  • Proficient in Bentley MicroStation CAD software

  • Excellent communication and organization Skills.

  • Understanding of CSM-RA & Health and Safety including CDM

  • Experience in managing teams.

  • Candidates will be able to provide experience of working in a 3D common data environment working to BIM procedures and practices.

  • Ability to develop OLE designs through the different stages of the project life cycle for complex sites

  • Knowledge of the design processes of other rail disciplines and how they may impact OLE designs
