Position Title Aircraft Worker - Blades

Receives assignments from a supervisor or a higher graded employee who provides oral or written instructions including description of materials to be used. Selects tools and materials, determines methods, and carries out assignments to completion. A higher grade employee is available to provide advice on problems encountered except on more routine assignments which are performed independently. Work is subject to spot-checks during progress and is reviewed upon completion to insure it meets requirements.
Serves as intermediate-level worker assigned to the Rotary Wing Section responsible to perform a variety of selected tasks involving replacement, repair, installation, minor rework, balancing, and alignment of rotor blade assemblies. Works under the direction of a higher-grade worker. Receives damaged blades, operates chain hoist to lift blades onto support stand, and washes blades with soap and water to remove dirt and grease. Visually checks blades for defects and dimensionally measures blade surfaces, using various gauges and measuring instruments. Refers questionable determinations as to extent of repairable damages to journeyman for verification and final decision. Uses hand sanders to clean bolt holes and attaches fittings. Replaces small drag brace bushings, cuts out torn skin, patches, and fills with honeycomb, countersinking by use of special simpler tool. Applies metal set cement to bond area. Coats surface with corrosion-resisting compound. Installs blades to hub assembly, balancing and aligning as required. Checks alignment of blades under specific instructional guidance as required. Disassembles components to point of malfunction and performs rework necessary for restoring item to operable condition. May assist higher-grade worker assigned to the whirl tower to install and remove blades and follows instructions on how to make adjustments as determined by the higher grade repairer.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Receives initial instructions from supervisor, who also makes work assignments designed and selected to ensure progress and developing skills increasingly towards fulfillment of job requirements at the journeyman level. Under the more immediate technical direction of higher-grade worker, performs various phases of rotor blade repair and replacement and/or duties of similar nature, with such work being checked in progress and when completed for compliance with instructions and procedures. All efforts by incumbent are subject to review and evaluation for conformance to technical orders, manuals, established shop practices, and/or other work requirements or criteria; and for ability to assume and perform assignments leading to the higher grade work.
Requires frequent lifting of heavy parts up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment, and torquing to high torque values in and around 300-1000 pounds. Moderately heavy physical effort in the frequent use of tiring work positions. When lifting objects that weigh in excess of 35 pounds, incumbent will obtain assistance or use mechanical handling equipment.
Works inside and/or outside; danger of occasionally slipping on oily or greasy floors. Subject to cuts from handling various parts and blade surfaces. Hazard of injury from blades being moved through working area by chain hoist. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the position.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.
3 years as Aircraft Overhaul Trades Helper
Basic knowledge of makeup of main rotor blade assemblies.
Ability to determine extent and type of routine repairs and/or rework necessary in order to restore item(s) to operating condition.
Ability to interpret and applying technical data from technical manuals, etc., i.e., grams and ounces conversion.
Ability to use common hand tools and precision measuring instruments to the trade.
