Job Summary

AECOM has an immediate opening for a Supervisor 1 in Department

509th (midnight shift) at Fort Polk, LA.

This position is expected to lead the activities of the maintenance department to ensure that fleet, weapons, commel and heavy equipment are available, dependable and safe at all times. Oversee preventative maintenance and service programs and ensures compliance with corporate policies and government regulations. Supervises and coordinates activities of 15 to 20 employees involved in vehicle maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all aspects of the service department

  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.

  • Manage and prioritize the tasks of 15+ mechanics

  • Issues written and oral instructions.

  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.

  • Maintains harmony among workers.

  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.

  • Adjusts errors and complaints.

  • Visits job sites to insure all safety precautions are being implemented.

  • Inspects work sites during and after completion to determine quality and completeness.

  • Ensures efficiencies in dispatching of Mechanics 24/7 for Breakdowns and Emergencies – Field Calls / Requests

  • Works closely with Dispatch department to minimize equipment downtime

  • Complete In-House Quality control reviews, spot checks, note changes for improvement

  • Reviews all work orders, service reports, labor time sheets and material requests for accuracy before submitting to work control for action.

  • Oversee and utilize preventative maintenance program

  • Approve vendor invoices

  • Supervise parts and inventory ordering to increase mechanic efficiencies.

  • Communicate with management regarding employees and handle disciplinary action as needed.

  • Assist in hiring and staffing needs by interviewing and selecting qualified candidates for hire.

  • Conduct safety meetings.

  • Ensure Shop Cleanliness and Safe work environment

  • Oversee tracking and submitting reimbursements for Warranties.

  • Oversee purchasing practices to follow government guidelines

  • Determine level of expertise / capabilities of mechanics vs. third party repairs accordingly.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation.

  • Must utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices.

  • Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Must be able to work at heights.

  • Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles of various sizes and heights

  • Must be able to work under pressure and strenuous conditions.

  • Must be able to meet short suspense dates.

  • Must be able to conduct work in the out-of-doors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions (i.e. extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain and blowing dust).

  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of stooping; climbing; standing; and sitting for long periods of uninterrupted time.

  • May require shift work.

  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • During the usual work period, the worker may be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable

Minimum Requirements

  1. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident

  2. High school diploma or equivalent.

  3. Five or more years’ experience and specific knowledge in vehicle maintenance either through schooling, to include a formal apprenticeship or equivalent, and/or verifiable on the job experience.

  4. Must know theory and principles of engine operations and accessories and components.

  5. Must have or be able to obtain site forklift and other licenses/certifications as needed to perform duties.

  6. Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.

  7. Must be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle

  8. Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate a diverse range of vehicles

  9. Must be able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.

  10. Must be able to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment

  11. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and apply Technical Manual instructions, publications, and safety rules.

  12. Must be able to read, interpret and use vehicle maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.

  13. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  14. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

  15. Computer literate with experience using MS Office

  16. Position may require travel.

  17. Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintenance and repair of military tactical vehicles, as well as, lawn mower (push, riding, zero turn), ATV, side by side, HMMWV, light wheeled trailers, LMTV, FMTV, medium wheeled trailers

  • ASE and/or Diesel Mechanic Certifications

  • Experience in field repairs and recovery

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, teambuilding and oral/written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
