Purpose and Scope:
As a member of the KSC Laboratory Support Services and Operations Contract Team, this individual will be responsible for advanced NDE technology development activities related to the examination of Space System hardware and associated Ground Support Equipment. Knowledge of Nondestructive Testing methodologies, in particular x-ray computed tomography, along with modelling and simulation skills will be needed. Candidate will have strong critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ideal candidate will be self-directed and possess strong and innovative technical abilities. Must be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as work alternately as a team member, or independent and without constant management supervision.
This position is aimed at the development of new technologies for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and characterization of metallic and non-metallic aerospace materials. Responsibilities will include project management, conducting experimental research and testing, and technical leadership for existing projects. Knowledge of materials of construction and fabrication methods for aerospace hardware is preferred. Knowledge of statistics, probability of detection principles, and design of experiments is desired. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience in C, C++, Labview, MatLab, Mathematica. Experience in radiographic, ultrasonic, acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, or laser experimentation and additional experience in areas such as analysis/modeling/simulation, robotics, and mechanical design is also desired.
Participate in advanced NDE projects along with producing technical reports and updates.
Perform advanced NDE field studies.
Lead or participate in discussions that assist in the administration, and coordination of activities.
Provide functional expertise in support of a project, to include exercise design and execution, analysis of evaluation data, and preparation of all associated documentation (manuals, guides, briefings, and reports).
Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.

Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical field plus experience in composite and metallic material testing is required with higher education highly desirable. Ten years of job related experience. May be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance. Requires a high level of expertise in the field of materials and NDE.
Previous experience with advanced NDE techniques.
