Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team. This position is based out of our Kitchener office with opportunities for remote / hybrid work permitted.

You will be working with our team of senior engineers, EIT's, technologists, BIM/CAD designers and project managers who focus on delivering high quality and challenging structural design projects within the public and private sectors.

You will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other disciplines such as architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and civil engineers on larger projects.

Job Description

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Independently perform structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures in accordance with relevant codes and standards.

  • Prepare technical specifications and contribute to project documentation.

  • Prepare structural analysis and calculation reports.

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure efficient project execution.

  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and structural assessments to evaluate structure’s conditions and provide recommendations.

  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule expectations with little supervision.

  • Provide technical or operational guidance to less experienced engineers, EIT’s and technicians.

  • Stay updated on industry codes, regulations, and best practices to ensure high-quality design solutions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario in good standing.

  • 6+ years of experience in structural engineering design and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation in any state of USA is considered an asset.

  • Experience in structural design of industrial plants, commercial buildings, government facilities, municipal infrastructures, and transit stations.

  • Proficiency in 3D structural analysis, modeling, and design software including but not limited to ETABS, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, as well as other computer-aided design tools relevant to this role.

  • Proven expertise in applying all major structural design codes and standards, including in-depth knowledge of NBC, OBC, and CSA S16, CSA A23.1, CSA A23.3, CSA S304, CSA O86, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English proficiency essential).

  • Ability to recognize and adhere to established deadlines and schedules is a must.

  • Ability to fit into a fast-paced team environment and/or work independently.

  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and multi-tasking

Additional Information

  • Company paid relocation is not available for this position.

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position

  • Occasional business travel within Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes may be required.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $72,000.00 - $126,000.00.
