Job Description
AECOM Canada is pleased to announce that our Cultural Heritage team is growing, and we are now seeking a Junior Cultural Heritage Specialist to help support our team. The AECOM Cultural Resources Department, formed in 2007, provides cultural heritage services to a wide array of public and private sector clients. Our areas of specialty include large, complex projects involving multiple stakeholder communities and often involving multiple levels of jurisdiction. We have a Cultural Heritage core team offering a range of services in built heritage and cultural heritage landscape conservation, planning and management, most notably in the context of environmental assessments and land-use planning and development activities. Our Cultural Heritage team specializes in infrastructure projects and has extensive experience and expertise in supporting large and complex undertakings that can span all aspects of the planning, design, construction and operational phases of the development process.
This role offers hybrid flexibility and will be based out of one of our Ontario offices: London, Barrie, Richmond Hill, Kitchener, Sudbury, Ottawa, North Bay, Hamilton, Mississauga, or Markham. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Junior Cultural Heritage Specialist to join our team. As a Junior Cultural Heritage Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in preserving and maintaining cultural heritage assets and ensuring their long-term sustainability. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of experts, architects, historians, and conservation professionals to protect and enhance our cultural heritage.
Principal Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Cultural Heritage team with tasks including, but not limited to:
Producing key heritage documents and reports, including Cultural Heritage Reports: Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments (Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports), Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, Documentation and Salvage Reports and Conservation Plans
Conducting historical property research, write architectural and landscape descriptions of cultural heritage resources, determine potential impacts on the cultural heritage resources, complete heritage evaluations using Ontario Regulation 9/06 and Ontario Regulation 10/06 and draft Statements of Cultural Heritage Value and develop lists of heritage attributes
Conducting field surveys within Ontario, when necessary
Attending and supporting public information sessions involving heritage related projects, when necessary
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Candidate must have completed Bachelor’s degree/diploma in urban planning, heritage conservation, history or in a related discipline, or have demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Must have a valid Ontario driver's license with access to a vehicle and insurance
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 2-3 years of experience working in the heritage profession or related field
Professional or Intern Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) is an asset
Working knowledge of relevant legislation framework and policies in Ontario, including the Planning Act, the Provincial Planning Statement, the Ontario Heritage Act, the Standards and Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties, the Ontario Heritage Toolkit, Parks Canada Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, the Transit and Rail Project Assessment Process, and the Ontario Heritage Bridge Guidelines
Proven writing skills and authorship of previous heritage reports
Experience and familiarity with municipal heritage planning processes
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment to meet strict time constraints and deadlines

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $51,000.00 - $60,000.00.
