Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Junior Quantity Surveyor to work out of our Markham, ON, or Burnaby, BC office.

As an industry leader in program management and construction management for large capital programs, AECOM oversees activities ranging from planning, coordination, scheduling and cost control, to design, construction and commissioning.

From concept through completion, we provide necessary technical and administrative services to help our clients meet their program objectives. We act as an extension of our clients’ staff, protecting their interests as our own.

This is a full-time role expected to begin as soon as possible.

Major responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • General Quantity Surveying, but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct Quantity take-offs and measurements for Architectural/Civil/Structural works and abstracting quantities to establishing standard Bill of Quantities.

  • Familiar of working with Standard Method of Measurements of Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS, Uni-format, Master format, etc.

  • Good Knowledge with Construction Technology and renovation works in Buildings, Civil and structural works.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting drawings, technical specifications, finishes schedules etc.

  • Advanced user with MS Office includes Excel, Word, Power point, Out-look, MS Project, Visio, and Adobe, PDF-Xchange Editor etc.

  • Understand on establishing unit prices and costing of construction cost estimates.

  • Reliability clearance with the Government of Canada is an asset but not essential

  • Knowledge of and experience using CostX , On Screen Take-off, and any company used quantity take-off software is an asset but not essential.

  • Knowledge about Construction Contracts, such as Lump Sum, Unit Price etc.

  • General assistance work related to day to day works of Quantity Surveying Office.

  • Post Contract Quantity Surveying when required, includes progress monitoring and reporting on interim payment applications, assisting in assessment of change orders etc..

  • Contacting suppliers and sub trades for enquiries related to specifications and trade quotations.

  • Assisting on carrying out research related to construction market conditions throughout Canada, including analysis of official published data as well as engaging with the market to obtain up to date rates for all construction products.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates and products, and administering procedures, templates and products.

  • Assisting on Knowledge management – Ensuring that key information and learning generated from each commission is inputted into internal databases and shared.

  • Assisting Process improvement – Identifying and acting upon ways to improve internal systems and processes.

  • Quality Control – Ensuring compliance with quality standards and participation in ISO audits.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have completed a degree or diploma in a relevant field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience is preferred

  • Education background in surveyance, or construction management

  • Relevant Quantity Surveying experience a strong asset.

  • Letter of assessment of qualifications towards CEC designation from CIQS required within 3 months of starting.

  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of CIQS exams towards CEC designation.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $75,000.00.
