Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and execution of the program, ensuring electrical systems design and construction adhere to all relevant codes and standards.
Ensures compliance with technical requirements through design reviews, submittal assessments, and testing of electrical systems.
Conducts Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance, and new construction projects.
Delivers non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections at various construction stages.
Supports the development of governance frameworks and process documentation related to electrical systems engineering practices.
Evaluates alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors, assessing feasibility and alignment with program requirements.
Manages technical aspects of the program, setting targets and goals for electrical systems engineering.
Facilitates coordination between engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure seamless integration across programs, facilities, and assets.
Reviews contractor and designer deliverables to confirm adherence to relevant codes, standards, and requirements.
Monitors the designer’s input during construction, overseeing RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.
Provides management-level progress reports and briefings on electrical systems design, highlighting key developments, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
- University Degree in Electrical Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience in the design, construction and commissioning of industrial and commercial electrical systems within a major capital project / program.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Requirements:
Registered Professional Engineer.
Aviation experience is an asset.
Proven ability to define functional and technical specifications aligned with business requirements, with a strong background in requirements management.
Comprehensive knowledge of scope definition, project planning, cost estimation, scheduling, testing, commissioning, project turnover, quality control, and reporting.
Extensive expertise in 27kV and 44kV distribution systems, power distribution networks, and combined cycle cogeneration plants operating in parallel with the utility.
In-depth knowledge of airfield lighting, system safety design, electrical design and construction, as well as operations and maintenance.
Strong understanding of stakeholder and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations (tenants, airlines, travelers), HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories (ULC), Code Consultants, and Health & Safety Consultants.
Familiarity with ISO 55001 Asset Management standard.
Advanced proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops involving large groups of stakeholders.
Additional Information
This position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $135,000.00.
