Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Municipal Engineer to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

  • Ensures that municipal design and construction meet technical requirements through comprehensive design reviews, submittal evaluations, and testing. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for proposed upgrades, alterations, maintenance, and new construction to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, codes, standards, and client-specific requirements. This includes assessing the reasonableness of proposed methodologies, criteria, and designs.

  • Providing non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections at various stages of construction.

  • Overseeing municipal servicing, including water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, gas, roads, bridges, underground lift stations, and parking garages. Offers expert guidance on capacity, demand, and the reliability of existing systems.

  • Evaluating alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors and assessing their feasibility and alignment with project requirements.

  • Coordinating the technical aspects of municipal infrastructure engineering within the program, including setting targets and goals.

  • Facilitating integration across engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure seamless coordination of programs, facilities, and assets.

  • Reviewing contractor and designer deliverables to confirm compliance with relevant requirements, codes, and standards.

  • Monitoring the designer’s input throughout the construction phase, including RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.

  • Providing management-level progress reports and briefings on structural design progress, challenges, and opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • University Degree in civil engineering with a focus on municipal engineering + 4 years of relevant experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, system protection, and control.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.

  • 7 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, system protection, and control. Expertise in capacity planning, future demand assessment, operations, and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary and stormwater management systems. Proficient in environmental engineering principles for major developments, including airport-specific requirements and Canadian aerodrome standards.

  • Extensive knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations, codes, and standards related to municipal infrastructure and environmental compliance.

  • Strong expertise in underground servicing, municipal road design, and water resource management principles.

  • Experience in preliminary and final design of roads, bridges, municipal systems, and facilities.

  • Proficient in developing and reviewing servicing, grading, and drainage designs, as well as conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with municipal standards.

  • Hands-on experience with design software, including MicroStation, BIM, AutoCAD, and Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer 3D modeling programs.

  • Knowledge of asset management principles for municipal infrastructure.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops with large groups.

Additional Information

This position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $135,000.00.
