Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Natural Systems Specialist to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Major Requirements:

  • Supports natural environment initiatives, including tree planting, wildlife and plant management, and protection of species at risk.

  • Ensures that overall program and design strategies integrate sustainable development principles and incorporate natural exterior and interior design elements.

  • Verifies that designs promote self-sustaining natural ecosystems and meet infrastructure requirements, while balancing ecological development with long-term maintenance and wildlife management.

  • Collaborates with Stakeholder Relations and Communications (SR&C), natural resource management teams, and external stakeholders to align sustainability strategies.

  • Confirms that all design and program strategies address applicable sustainability requirements, supporting both environmental goals and occupant health, lifestyle, and well-being.

  • Ensures alignment of all related works with the organization’s vision for a sustainable, carbon-positive, and environmentally responsible future.

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • University Degree in engineering, planning, or a sustainability-related discipline + 4 years of experience in the environmental, energy, or sustainable design sectors.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional certification (PE, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP).

  • Proven experience in achieving sustainability outcomes within the infrastructure sector; involvement in large, complex programs is a valuable asset.

  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles, with a focus on protecting the natural environment and integrating natural systems into urban and commercial developments.

  • Familiarity with sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management frameworks, including relevant disclosure standards and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated expertise in sustainable resource management and environmental protection practices.

  • Robust technical skills across all phases of project delivery, with the ability to address complex challenges through data-driven analysis and solution development.
