Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Passenger Transport Engineer to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and execution of the program, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards for passenger transport systems.

  • Ensures passenger transport systems design and construction meet technical requirements through design reviews, submittal assessments, and testing.

  • Conducts Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work, and new construction projects.

  • Delivers non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections at various stages of construction.

  • Supports the development of governance frameworks and process documentation related to passenger transport systems engineering practices.

  • Evaluates alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors, assessing feasibility and alignment with client requirements.

  • Manages the technical aspects of the program, setting targets and goals for passenger transport systems engineering.

  • Facilitates coordination between engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure seamless integration across programs, facilities, and assets.

  • Reviews contractor and designer deliverables to confirm compliance with relevant requirements, codes, and standards.

  • Monitors the designer’s input throughout construction, overseeing RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.

  • Provides management-level progress reports and briefings on passenger transport systems design, highlighting key developments, challenges, and opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • University Degree in in electrical, mechanical, controls systems engineering or another relevant engineering discipline + 4 years of relevant experience in the design, construction and commissioning of industrial and commercial passenger transportation systems within a major capital project / program.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer.

  • Aviation experience is considered an asset.

  • Previous experience with elevating or conveying devices, or mass transportation systems are considered assets. Experience can be obtained from the following fields:

  • Heavy equipment Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)

  • Logistics

  • Material handling

  • Automotive and general manufacturing

  • Proven experience in defining functional and technical specifications aligned with business requirements, with a strong background in requirements management.

  • In-depth knowledge of escalators, elevators, and other conveyance systems, including associated regulations, laws, and technological limitations.

  • Expertise in mass transportation technologies, along with an understanding of relevant regulations, laws, and industry constraints.

  • Strong understanding of field construction, project management, and procurement methods, including standard safety protocols, construction procedures, document control, site acceptance testing, and factory acceptance testing.

  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning, and MicroStation.

  • Familiarity with ISO 55001 Asset Management standard.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops involving large groups of stakeholders.

Additional Information

This position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $135,000.00.
