Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Airport Baggage to join our team. This position is based out of Mississauga.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Offers expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery phases of the program, with a focus on BHS (Baggage Handling System) design, construction, testing, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

  • Ensures that BHS design and construction meet technical requirements through activities such as design reviews, submittal evaluations, and testing oversight.

  • Evaluates alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor, providing feedback on feasibility and alignment with client requirements.

  • Manages the technical aspects of the program related to BHS engineering, including setting program targets and goals.

  • Establishes governance frameworks, processes, and procedures to effectively manage interfaces between the client and contractors.

  • Collaborates with the program team to schedule and conduct design reviews in alignment with program requirements.

  • Coordinates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and alignment across programs, facilities, and assets.

  • Reviews contractor and designer deliverables to confirm compliance with applicable requirements, codes, and standards.

  • Oversees designer input during the construction phase, including RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.

  • Prepares management-level progress reports and briefings on structural design progress, challenges, and opportunities.

  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and career development support to staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering field + 8 (eight) years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) engineering, specifically at major international airports.

  • At least 5 years of experience working on large capital programs, including new construction or significant terminal restoration/renovation projects.

  • A relevant professional designation is an asset.

  • Extensive expertise in the specification, design, construction, and maintenance of BHS in major international airports.

  • In-depth knowledge of system safety requirements, applicable codes, and regulations.

  • Strong experience and expertise in the design, simulation, commissioning, and maintenance of baggage systems, including related HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and control room standards.

  • Expert-level understanding of Professional Mechanical and Industrial Engineering principles, theories, and practices, as well as client technical standards and safe operating procedures, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition) systems.

  • Proficient in risk management and impact assessment for planning and failure recovery of baggage handling systems, with the ability to address and resolve operational issues effectively.

  • Strong technical capabilities across all project phases, including solving complex problems and utilizing data analytics to identify and support solutions.

  • Proven experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic-level reporting to facilitate effective decision-making.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $121,000.00 - $217,000.00.
