AECOM is seeking a chemical engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. This position will primarily support the engineering research group by; performing small scale R&D design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting system, and working closely with the site technicians.
Efficiently use AutoDesk AutoCAD and Inventor to prepare process engineering drawings including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and room/building layout drawings.
Size and specify piping and flow/pressure control instruments. Compile instrument index for complete gas and liquid supply systems.
Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the chemical/process engineering discipline, including heat and cooling load, mass and flow balancing, pipe/vessel design pressure, and pressure relief valve sizing calculations.
Independently lead design/build projects within the NETL sites.
Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other members of the engineering team to resolve any issues.
Create and/or review purchase orders, statements of work, and subcontracts.
Support in-house technicians on new installations and maintenance/modification issues.
Assist with the development of man hour estimates for design, fabrication, and installation.
Maintain a positive working relationship with, and communicate effectively to the customer.
Limited day travel to the Pittsburgh NETL sister site required. (5%-10%)
BSChE or equivalent
7 Plus years’ experience
PE in West Virginia
Experience with brines and corrosion prediction/analysis
Experience with coal and natural gas research and/or operations
