Job Description

AECOM is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist/Geologist to support the Environmental business line from the Omaha, Nebraska AECOM office, primarily working on Department of Defense (DoD) projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

  • Prepare technical documents and proposals.

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems.

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.

  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.

  • Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment.

  • Prepare advanced data and scientific documents.

  • Perform unsupervised tasks.

  • Direct staff in the execution of tasks.

  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.

  • Coordinate with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation.

  • Provide technical expertise support.

This position will be on a project management track with the opportunity to complete AECOM’s project manager training and certification process. Qualified candidates (or candidates with the desire to take on project management roles) will work closely with senior-level project managers to learn AECOM’s project management procedures and expectations.​​​​

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or other related discipline + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or other related discipline.

  • Ability to travel for fieldwork and/or meetings. This position may require occasional travel within the United States.

  • Experience with developing conceptual site models and preparing remediation strategies.

  • Proficiency in standard MS Office suite software applications. Experience with MS Project a plus.

  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

  • Database, GIS, CAD, visualization software skills are desirable.

  • Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.

  • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

Additional Information

  • Frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment without assistance up to 50lbs.

  • Previous experience or proven ability in operating a full-size pickup truck.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $80,000.00.
