Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Graphic Designer for the Orange, CA office. The ideal candidate would be a Graphic Designer with expertise in Adobe InDesign, specifically in the context of planning, architecture, or landscape projects. This role is ideal for a designer who thrives on organizing complex information into clear, compelling, and visually polished reports, studies, and presentations.

Job Summary:

  • Help produce large, multi-page planning documents (e.g., master plans, feasibility studies, design guidelines)

  • Collaborate with planners, architects, and landscape architects to translate technical content into engaging visual formats

  • Maintain consistent layouts, typographic hierarchies, and visual consistency that align with client branding and project goals

  • Create infographics, diagrams, site illustratives, and supporting visual content to clarify narratives

  • Ensure visual consistency and file organization across large, collaborative project teams

  • Revises and refines designs based on feedback from team members, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meets project deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelors degree relevant to the position plus (2) two years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in graphic design

  • Proven experience working on design deliverables in the planning, architecture, or landscape industries

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, with strong working knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat

  • Solid understanding of layout, hierarchy, typography, and visual clarity in technical documents

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Experience designing for federal or municipal planning projects; publication standards for government or institutional clients is a plus

  • Working knowledge of CAD and Microsoft Word

  • Expertise in long-format document design a bonus

1. Documents

Include examples of professionally formatted documents such as reports, studies, or presentations. These should showcase:

  • Strong layout and typographic design

  • Visual clarity

  • Use of visual continuity

2. Illustratives, Diagrams & Infographics

Show work that captures conceptual ideas or environments visually, including:

  • Rendered plans, vision boards, or character sketches

  • Visual storytelling for planning or design proposals

  • Layout of text and graphics together to communicate narratives or concepts clearly

Provide samples that demonstrate how you've simplified complex ideas visually, such as:

  • Process graphics, timelines, or workflows

  • Maps, spatial graphics, or site analysis diagrams

  • Custom charts or data visualizations

Format :

  • Submit as a PDF (25MB max) or link to a web-based portfolio

  • Confidential materials are acceptable if redacted or labeled appropriately

  • Focus on work relevant to the planning and design industries

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $85,000.00.
