Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking candidates to become a Geologist to support mining, geotechnical, and civil infrastructure projects in our Denver and Salt Lake City or Phoenix offices . The qualified candidate shall have a minimum of 2 years of experience with a strong background in geotechnical investigation practice. The position requires effective verbal skills to communicate with internal teams and clients. Written communication skills in the form of technical reports are a must. Additional experience preferred includes: task management, geotechnical analytical skills, geologic modeling, and experience in geotechnical laboratory testing.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Planning, budgeting and executing surface and subsurface field geologic and geotechnical exploration;

  • Perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards and site characterization;

  • Contribute to interpretation of site conditions including: geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data and preparing geotechnical and geologic reports;

  • Contribute to geologic models for complex geologic site conditions under the direction of a senior geologist;

  • Conducting geologic research, and developing innovative ways to advance projects with the latest technologies;

  • Collaborating with geotechnical and structural engineers to develop robust tailings dam designs on mine sites.

  • Assisting in the preparation of project documentation including reports, project communications, and design drawings and report figures that are of a high professional standard.

  • Written communication skills in the form of technical reports are a must.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.

  • Valid Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing complex subsurface investigations including drilling, fast vane shear testing, cone penetrometer testing, vibrating-wire piezometers, soil and rock classification, and geotechnical instrumentation.

  • Ability to manage multiple project tasks and meet deadlines with aggressive schedules efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and work product quality

  • Willingness to work in the field conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection in a variety of extreme terrain and weather conditions;

  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Master’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering

  • Broad experience with geotechnical projects including mining infrastructure, mine tailings, and dams;

  • Client relationship skills

  • Experience working with and reducing field data from cone penetrometer testing, dilatometer, and fast vane shear tests.

  • Experience with ArcGIS

Additional Information

  • No sponsorship will be offered for this role.

  • Travel to domestic locations for projects up to 70%

  • No relocation will be offered for this role.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $57,000.00 - $75,000.00.
