AECOM is actively seeking a Propulsion and Shafting Engineering Technician to work in Code 263 at SWRMC. This position is located at SWRMC in San Diego, CA.
Provide technical support and assistance on mechanical propulsion plant systems and components. Systems and subsystems include, but not limited to, Main Reduction Gears (MRG), attached lube oil and CPP pumps, propulsion shafting, stern tube seals, stern tube and line shaft bearings, bulkhead seals and associated systems.
Provide mechanical technician support for urgent mission degrading CASREPs or other system and component problems affecting propulsion plant systems, auxiliary systems and related components onboard ships.
Provide mechanical technician support for assessments and inspections such as TMIs, TSRAs, INSURVs, and ICMPs.Assist ships force with obtaining supply and repair parts information as required.
Conduct research to provide drawings, technical manual information, design specifications, and engineering technical recommendations for corrective actions on mechanical propulsion plant systems and components.
Provide mechanical support for Engineering Service Requests (ESR) to include work specification review, Inspection Deficiency Report (IDR) and Condition Found Report (CFR) resolution, and review of Process Control Procedure (PCP) and other formal work packages.
Assist with technical research and resolution recommendations for the Departure From Specification (DFS) program.
Provide mechanical technical assistance and support on complex technical problems for propulsion plant systems and components that are beyond the capability of forces afloat, intermediate maintenance activities or repair activities.
At least seven (7) years of technical experience with surface ship or submarine propulsion systems, supporting systems and components, OR Bachelors Degree in Engineering (marine, mechanical, naval architecture, ocean, or similar) and at least two (2) years technical experience beyond college.
Excellent communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Position may require travel.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Experience providing propulsion and shaft related technical work including maintenance and operations of propulsion and supporting system in the U.S. Navy or onboard USNS ships.
Service in Navy shipyards is also preferred
Active clearance preferred.
