Job Description

AECOM Markham is hiring a Site Supervisor Engineer – Support of Excavation (SOE) to support the Ontario Line North project, with a focus on the overseeing and ensuring that all excavation and support structures are constructed in compliance with design specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. The role involves close coordination with contractors and project stakeholders to monitor construction progress, assess quality, and facilitate resolution of technical issues for a transit infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure construction alignment with project plans, construction sequence, and design requirements for temporary works.

  • Conduct site visits to observe critical construction stages (hold-points/witness points) and verify compliance with design intent and contract terms.

  • Review construction activities to assess conformity with approved drawings, technical specifications, and permit conditions.

  • Participate in reviews of mock-ups, material tests, and calibrations to ensure materials and workmanship meet design expectations.

  • Coordinate project documentation including RFIs, NCRs, and field changes to maintain accurate and timely communication between stakeholders.

  • Assess and support remedial actions for non-conforming work, ensuring proposed solutions align with design and quality standards.

  • Attend regular project meetings (progress, coordination, issue resolution) and provide technical input as needed.

  • Guide the construction team on best practices for SOE (Support of Excavation) implementation and technical design execution.

  • Validate as-built documentation to ensure it accurately reflects the constructed work and aligns with issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings.

  • Join completion inspections to verify final works meet project specifications and are ready for handover.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in field engineering, specifically in excavation support and underground construction projects.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in overseeing excavation works and support structures compliance.

  • Prior experience working on TTC and Metrolinx transit infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, shoring techniques, and excavation support systems.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Knowledge of construction quality assurance processes, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.

  • Experience coordinating RFIs, NCRs, and field changes during construction.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and resolve construction issues effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate collaboration among project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in construction management software and documentation tools.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced field environment with a strong commitment to safety and quality assurance.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $110,000.00 - $160,000.00.
