Job Description

AECOM is seeking a passionate Senior Community Engagement and Communication Specialist to ensure tremendous outcomes from work we do with our clients. This is a permanent full-time position. This position will report to the Manager, Community Engagement & Communication and can be based in the Greater Toronto Area. As part of the Environment Business Line, on the Community Engagement and Communication Team, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. This position is accountable for driving, planning and carrying out community engagement and communication plans, working collaboratively with specialist teams as part of environmental assessment (EA), impact assessment, permitting and construction processes, and contributing to the development of our strategic community engagement and communication practice.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to strategically develop strategic communication and stakeholder engagement plans and activities on behalf of our clients and tracking and reporting on the results of engagement

  • Supporting the management of project budgets and schedules, internal and external document control, resourcing and project records

  • Efficiently coordinating internal stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team activities to improve cooperation, minimize conflict and ensure successful project delivery

  • Leading community engagement and communication activities and tactics, including in—person and virtual workshops, construction liaison committees, working groups, community meetings, and public open houses

  • Creating communication materials including key messages, FAQs, presentations, notices, advertisements, and discussion guides

  • Managing and effectively responding to issues and concerns raised by stakeholders and community members

  • Coordinating the exceptional execution of deliverables and tasks, including delegating work to and mentoring intermediate and junior staff

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A degree or professional designation is preferred (such as communication, environmental planning), although proven practical experience is essential

  • 10+ years working in a similar role in the public or private sectors

  • 10+ years professional writing experience including: plain language, AODA, web-content, internal and external communications

  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem solving and time management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management and the public

  • A valid driver license and access to transportation

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely if required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience

  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset

  • Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis and facilitation

  • Strong knowledge of project coordination/ management concepts and processes

  • Membership in or accreditation from IAP2, CPRS, IABC, IAF

  • Knowledge of the Canadian regulatory and policy context, Federal and Provincial Impact Assessment processes - including leading practice in communication and engagement and/ or Indigenous engagement and participation

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $90,000.00 - $145,000.00.
