Joining our established and expanding Nuclear team as a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer means engaging in a diverse and growing array of UK-based projects. This role offers the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary projects at various stages of their lifecycle, from client consultancy to delivering comprehensive engineering design solutions. Your responsibilities will include client interaction, preparing bids and proposals, and overseeing project delivery in line with AECOM's standards for quality, safety, and environmental care.
Our established multi-disciplinary nuclear SQEP team, based across the UK, has been delivering fit-for-purpose solutions across the full spectrum of the nuclear sector for over 50 years. We understand that the nuclear sector is unique, with the utmost need for safety and a critical requirement to manage a myriad of potential risks.

Here’s what you’ll do:
You will be responsible for delivery of Mechanical Building Services design & engineering within that department, including the production of design documentation, design substantiation, as well as checking and approval of the work of other engineers & designers.
Lead design strategies for mechanical heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and other building services systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.
Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards, such as LEED, BREEAM, or local energy efficiency requirements.
Implement best practices in sustainable and energy-efficient design, utilizing new technologies, renewable energy sources, and smart building systems.
Perform technical audits and peer reviews of engineering designs to ensure quality, safety, and performance standards.
Collaborate with our in-house multidisciplinary team and external third-party consultants to deliver integrated design consultancy services on projects.
You will be responsible for supporting and training more junior members of the MEP team.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:
The successful Engineer will have/be:
Qualified to a minimum of HND level and preferably have a good relevant engineering degree.
Incorporated Engineer and working towards chartership.
Membership of CIBSE, or a relevant and equivalent professional body
Strong experience in mechanical building services design from working in a range of market sectors, with a strong understanding of design principles and the ability to apply them.
Understanding and knowledge using IES and AUTOCAD.
Prepares detailed technical reports, cost estimates, and design specifications with minimal oversight.
Ensures design compliance with regulatory standards, client requirements, and project specifications.
Ability to provide support to junior engineers.
Preferred Additional Qualifications / Skills
Knowledge of Electrical building services design.
Have a working knowledge of appropriate nuclear standards and specifications as well as general engineering standards.
Experience in the nuclear sector, including new build and decommissioning projects.
Using Revit to be able to amend and investigate Revit models to ensure that the output is correct and appropriate. We can train someone in this, if required.
You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work autonomously where required.
